While some Friday Night Lights stars didn’t find success after the show ended, Jesse Plemons continued to star in major TV shows and movies. When he was done playing kind-hearted teenager Landry Clarke, he starred in the critically acclaimed series Fargo and Olive Kitteridge. Plemons has also starred in popular movies like Game Night, Windfall, and Antlers.
The actor also often makes headlines for his sweet relationship with Kirsten Dunst. And recently, while promoting his new miniseries Love & Death, Jesse Plemons looked like he lost a lot of weight. What diet and workout regimen did the actor follow to lose a few pounds?
What diet plan did Jesse Plemons follow to lose weight?
Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst support each other and it’s cool to see a celebrity couple who both choose such interesting projects.
Jesse Plemons gained 45 pounds to star in the 2015 film Black Mass. He then lost a few pounds and explained in a 2016 interview with GQ that he focused on healthier food choices.
Plemons said of his diet“I had lost a little weight at the Fargo premiere, and I remember this guy asking, like, ‘What’s your secret to losing weight? Tell us! I was like, ‘Well, I ate everything, then I just stopped eating terrible food.’ It’s not too complicated.
It appears Plemons followed the same diet when he lost weight again more recently.
In February 2023, Jesse Plemons and Daniel Kaluuya chatted for Interview Magazine. Plemons explained how when he learned he had been cast in Love & Death, he wanted to lose weight.
When Kaluuya asked “How did you do?” Plemons said: “Something clicked in my head and I got tired of carrying all that extra weight.” He continued, “I was asked to do a scene in this movie and I was playing a soldier, and I was like, ‘I don’t know a lot of soldiers my size.
Plemons explained that he started eating fewer carbs and thinking about what he ate. He said: “So like everyone else, I started doing intermittent fasting, cutting carbs, all that stuff. It’s easy if you really do it.”
The actor added that he was pleased with the results. He mentioned his two children whom he shares with Kirsten Dunst and said, “I feel better. Blood pressure has gone down. I have two children, and they’re getting to the point where I have to keep up with them.”
What workout plan did Jesse Plemons follow to lose weight?
When celebrities share that they have lost weight, sometimes they work with a famous trainer who motivates them. And they often mention a mix of strength training and cardio.
Plemons, however, did not specify if he had been to the gym during his weight loss journey.
In their conversation for Interview Magazine, Daniel Kaluuya told Plemons, “The secret to losing weight is that you have to train more than you eat. I’m happy for you.” Plemons did not mention his workouts.
It’s possible that Jesse Plemons focused on what he ate and didn’t work out at all. And that might actually be the reason he was able to lose weight.
People often wonder if exercising or eating healthy will help them lose weight. According to the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Donald Hensrud said, “For weight loss, diet appears to be more effective than physical activity. You need to do huge amounts of physical activity to lose weight, but you can get a better energy deficit just by cutting calories.”
Dr. Hensrud continued that when people want to maintain their progress, they should hit the gym. This is interesting because it often seems like intense, long workouts are the way to go.
The doctor’s words have been echoed by many other sources. According to Time Magazine, studies have concluded that if someone watches what they eat and trains for a period of six months, they could lose that many pounds just by watching their food intake.
Although Jesse Plemons didn’t give details about his training schedule, he did talk about how he feels about his physical appearance. Seems like it’s been hard for him to get people to pay so much attention to his appearance and whether he’s lost or gained weight. He looked very vulnerable in his 2016 interview with GQ.
The actor told GQ, “Yeah, talking about it, if anything, makes me a little more empathetic—sympathetic?—to what women have to go through. My god! Men in general just aren’t held under the same microscope in this way.”
In 2015, Plemsons was interviewed by Vulture and asked about gaining weight while starring in Black Mass. Vulture mentioned that he needed to maintain his weight gain for his Fargo character, Ed Blumquist.
Plemons said, “I play a small-town sheriff who also happens to be a bit overweight.”
When asked if he could focus on losing weight in the future, Plemons replied: “Well, now hopefully. That was my excuse for a while, I was working. Now , I have no more excuses, so I have to do it.”
Plemons answered a question about whether he was losing weight at this point in his life. He said yes and mentioned that he sometimes exercises. He said: “I’m-ish. I eat healthy and exercise once in a while. But I’ve been more focused on getting my house in order because I haven’t been home since. so long. Exercise is next on the list, even though it’s not my favorite activity. But I’ll be happy to get rid of some of the weight.
It’s possible that Plemons focused on both diet and exercise when he recently lost weight. However, he may not want to talk about his exact workout routine. Either way, it’s great to hear that Jesse Plemons is feeling good and happy with his results.
